Driver to be imprisoned due to driving drunk repeatedly in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ – A driver from Briceni will stay in prison for 05 months after being arrested several times while driving in a drunken condition. He was also deprived of the right to drive for 02 years.
The defendant is 31 years old and has been convicted twice for drunk driving, at an interval of about 1.5 years. However, this did not stop him from getting for the third time at the wheel, even though for the previous violation he was fined MDL 16,000 and he was deprived for a period of the right to drive.
According to court decision, the man is to serve his sentence in an open – type penitentiary. The prosecutor's office, however, has announced that it would challenge the sentence and request a harsher punishment, namely the changing of punishment for a semi – closed penitentiary, given that the defendant committed the violation intentionally and repeatedly. In semi – closed prisons the convicts are kept under guard and under permanent supervision.
