Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - The new leadership of the Penitentiary No 13 today submitted an application to the Chisinau-based Court of Appeal, thereby demanding the suspension of the conclusion by the Ciocana district Court on the conditional release of the former Moldovan prime minister, Vlad Filat. The spokesman of the State Administration of Penitentiaries, Oleg Pantea, has confirmed the information for MOLDPRES.
According to Pantea, the penitentiary’s new leadership considered the decision on the conditional release of the former leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and found out that certain conditions had not been fulfilled. They say that the term served by the former PM Filat had been calculated incorrectly and the individual schedule had not been fully carried out.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, one of the lawyers of the former prime minister said that he had not been informed about an eventual appeal and that he learned the information from the media.
On 4 December evening, Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi said that he would demand the re-consideration of the decision on conditional release of Vlad Filat, as the ruling seemed to him suspect and raised more doubts.
Also on 4 December, Vlad Filat gave a news conference, during which he commented on the decision of his conditional release, which he described as perfectly legal.
The former PLDM leader on 3 December was released following a ruling issued by a court from Chisinau. After Filat’s release, the justice minister dismissed the leadership of the National Administration of Penitentiaries and of the Penitentiary No 13 and appointed new acting directors.
The former prime minister, Vlad Filat, on 27 June 2016 was sentenced by the Chisinau Court to nine years of imprisonment for influence peddling and passive corruption, following a denunciation by Ilan Shor. Filat was conditionally released on 3 December, as a result of a ruling issued by the Ciocana district court from the Moldovan capital.
