Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/- The prosecutor's office finalized and sued the criminal case initiated after the illegal removal of Turkish teachers from the country in September 2018. The only accused in the case is former SIS director, who pleaded guilty and cooperated with the investigation, being investigated at large. Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo made the statement today.

According to Stoianoglo, after the illegal removal of the seven Turkish teachers from Moldova, the  Prosecutor General's Office initiated a criminal case on the former SIS leadership and director of the Migration and Asylum Office.

He added that prosecutors found that SIS acted without permission of the Migration and Asylum Office, and all procedures for removing teachers from the country were coordinated by the former SIS director. Also, SIS employees obeying orders were not aware that this operation would be illegal.

On 20 January the two former SIS deputy heads and director of the Migration and Asylum Office were removed from criminal prosecution.

The former SIS director is accused of abuse of office, and if found guilty he risks up to six years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to 10 years.  At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office asked the former SIS head for collecting damages dictated by the ECHR on five of the seven teachers removed from Moldova.

In September 2018, seven Turkish citizens were declared undesirable people and removed from Moldova.
