Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - The inter-connection of the electro-energy systems of Moldova and Romania, construction of the infrastructure of water and sewerage supply, energy efficiency in public buildings, as well as the construction of the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau are just some of the strategic projects of Moldova on the energy sector’s development. Or, the diversification of the sources of electric energy supply in Moldova is one of the priorities of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI), according to the competent minister Sergiu Railean.

„The energy sector is a strategic one for the national economy. The diversification of the sources of supply of electric energy in Moldova through carrying out the interconnection of the electro-energy systems with Romania and interconnection of the native electro-energy system in the EU’s regional market is one of the priorities of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry. Also, we want to further develop projects on enhancement of Moldovan citizens’ access to improved public services in the sector of water and sewerage supply, as well as of the energy efficiency in the public buildings,’’ Sergiu Railean said.

According to MEI, starting from 2010, Moldova was set to overcome the obstacles of use of technologies which utilize the solar and biomass energy through showing examples of good viable practices as alternative to the natural gas and coal, as well as a sustainable way of protection of the environment through solving the problems on energy supply in the rural settlements.

Among the important projects from the energy sector, there is Moldelectrica – rehabilitation of the electric transport networks, construction of the Iasi-Ungheni—Chisinau gas pipeline, thermal restoration of education buildings from Cantemir.

Also, at present, such programmes are implemented as the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership, construction of the infrastructure on supply with water and sewerage, as well as the energy efficiency in public buildings, interconnection of electro-energy systems of Moldova and Romania.
