Chisinau, 3 August /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers has allocated another 100 million lei from the Interventions Fund for supporting farmers.

After a today’s weekly meeting with the Moldovan president and parliament speaker, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the officials had ruled to earmark 100 million lei from the Interventions Fund to the agriculture subsidization fund. Thus, the overall sum meant for farmers is 200 million lei.

At the same time, PM Chicu noted that the drought had caused damages to the maize and sunflower crops. ‘’At present, decision-makers make the assessment of the losses recorded by the second-group cereals, maize and sunflower, which were hit by the drought too,’’ Chicu said.

Also, the prime minister asked the farmers to insure the activities at insurance companies, noting that the government had increased the insurance premium against the natural calamities from 50 to 70 per cent.
