Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/- Over 3.2 million citizens of the Republic of Moldova with the right to vote are expected to participate today in the presidential elections. Voting centers are open from 07:00 to 21:00.

For today's election, 2,143 polling stations were set up, of which 139 polling stations abroad, and 42 polling stations in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester. In all, 2,934,017 ballots were printed.

Eight candidates have registered for the presidency: Renato Usatii - candidate of the Political Party Our Party; Andrei Năstase - candidate of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, Tudor Deliu - candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party, independent candidate - Igor Dodon; Violeta Ivanov - candidate of the Shor Party, Maia Sandu - candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party, Octavian Țîcu - candidate of the National Unity Party, Dorin Chirtoacă - candidate of UNIREA Electoral Bloc.

Today, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens are asked to enter the polling booths with protective masks and take their own pen to sign the lists. People who will not be able to physically go to the polling station, including those who show symptoms of acute respiratory infections, will vote at place of residence following an application by 15:00.

To validate the elections, the presence of at least one third of the number of voters registered in the electoral lists is required at the polls. If the turnout is lower, the ballot will be declared invalid and will be repeated in two weeks, with the participation of the same candidates.

If one of the eight candidates registered in the race gets 50 plus one of the votes, he will be elected president in the first round, and if all candidates will have below this score, then the run-off will be held in two weeks with the participation of the first two candidates ranked in the first round.
