Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - More than 1 million and 100,000 electors or 40 per cent exercised their right to vote till 18:00. The ballot can be regarded as valid, once the figure of one third of the voters is recorded.

At a news briefing, the head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Dorin Cimil, informed that a voter turnout of over 50 per cent had been registered at the elections from 2016. Cimil noted that about 54 per cent of the electors who voted today were women and the voters older than 56 years were most active. Just as at the previous ballots, young people up to 25 years of age are the most passive.

The CEC head said that more than 106,000 citizens had already voted at polling stations opened outside Moldova. ‘’All those 16 polling stations from the USA and Canada were opened without incidents. At the same time, the polling stations from Baku (Azerbaijan) and Surgut, Russia, where 26 electors voted, closed. Agglomerations were registered at more polling stations from Canada, Israel, France, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Romania,’’ Cimil also said.

According to the CEC head, the most active voting was recorded in London and Paris. Over 14,000 citizens exercised their right to vote at those 42 polling stations opened for the citizens from the left bank of Dniester.

CEC said that it had received four notifications so far.

The citizens have at their disposal another three hours to vote. The first preliminary data on the results of the polls will be presented at about 22:00.
