Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and the Dignity and Truth Platform have come up with reactions after the resignation of the cabinet of ministers led by Ion Chicu. They reiterated the option for snap parliamentary elections. The Democratic Party, as well as the other parliamentary groups has not come up with a position on this subject as yet.

The PAS leadership informed that it backed the dissolution of the current parliament and the launch of snap elections. ‘’The government’s resignation opens the shortest ways towards the snap polls. Now, more scenarios are discussed: roadmaps, transition government. We must understand that the current parliament cannot appoint a government,’’ the head of the PAS parliamentary faction, Igor Grosu, said.

The Dignity and Truth Platform issued a press release, thereby informing that the formation reiterates the option for the ‘’snap parliamentary elections, launched immediately under the constitutional procedures or organized by a responsible transition cabinet, able to manage the economic and sanitary crisis till the next free and fair snap parliamentary elections.’’

Prime Minister Ion Chicu today announced that he rendered resignation along with the entire cabinet of ministers and that he was to have a meeting with President-elect Maia Sandu, in order to make clear the work of the acting government.

Under the legislation, the cabinet of ministers will be acting till the new cabinet members take the oath. On the period when it is outgoing, the cabinet will fulfill only duties of management of public affairs and cannot take decisions on the foreign policy and has no right to legislative initiative.

Also, the Moldovan president is obliged to start consultations with the parliamentary factions, in order to form a new government. The deadline for the swearing in office of the new cabinet of ministers is of three months. If a new cabinet is not voted on this period, the parliament is dissolved and snap parliamentary elections are launched.
