11:30 | 05.01.2021 Category: Social

Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo came today during a briefing with an appeal of principle on political attacks on the independence of the Prosecutor's Office. The appeal is also signed by members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, Association of Prosecutors and Association of Veterans of the Prosecutor's Office of Moldova.

Although the Constitution sees the principle of separation of powers in state "recently there have been a number of worrying conflicts and tensions related to its implementation."

He said that PG recognizes that there are public service providers, and is aware of the need to ensure the public interest in the activity of the Prosecutor's Office to show more transparency, "only the specific activity, legal restrictions, including the need to respect fundamental human rights, they do not allow it to be done in the volume that the politicians demand ”.

"We hoped that the times when Politics did Justice, and Justice dictated Politics, remained in the past, but it seems we were wrong. We are witnessing daily attempts to change the place and manner of justice. Dear politicians, justice is not done in the offices of the presidency or parliament. In no case would I want this appeal to be perceived as an act of confrontation with the newly elected President. On the contrary, the Prosecutor's Office is ready to support and contribute to all initiatives set out by the new President, focused on fight against corruption, crime, justice reform, this must take place within the limits imposed by the Constitution," he said.

He noted he made a request to the Venice Commission, International Association of Prosecutors, European Prosecutors' Advisory Council, Network of Prosecutors General and heads of equivalent institutions in the supreme courts of the member states of the European Union (NADAL), European Parliament and the diplomatic staff accredited in Moldova to highlight the political pressure and intimidation coming from the politics that tries to undermine the independence of prosecutors to the advantage of the political factor. He said that the text of the appeal will be translated and sent to the European court.
