Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, during a 18-19 January official visit to Brussels, has had a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.

According to the presidential press service, Maia Sandu thanked Josep Borrell for the constant support provided by EU to Moldova in the last years. The officials discussed priorities of the bilateral cooperation in the long run. It is about, first of all, the reopening of the political dialogue and initiating a close cooperation with the country’s European partners, ensuring a quick access to anti-Covid-19 vaccines for Moldova’s citizens, especially for those from the risk groups, as well as the way Moldova can advance on the European agenda as efficiently as possible.

„I reiterated that Moldova wants to boost its cooperation with EU in the foreign policy sector and I tackled, in this context, ways of more active collaboration on the agenda of the national and regional security. At the same time, I stressed the fact that, for Moldova, the biggest threat for the state and the national interest is corruption, with the justice reform being the only way to be able to ensure the citizens’ well-being and security on the long-term’’ the head of state said following the meeting with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Josep Borrell assured Maia Sandu of his every support for Moldova and its citizens. For her part, the Moldovan president made an invitation to Josep Borrell to pay an official visit to Chisinau.
