Moldovan deputy premier has meeting with Head of EU Delegation to Moldova

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - The developments in the Transnistrian file and the prospects for the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement for 2021 represented the focus of discussions held today by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Olga Cebotari with Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau Peter Michalko, at their first official meeting.    

According to the Reintegration Policies Bureau, the deputy prime minister informed the European diplomat about the present situation in the process of talks, aspects of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue and options of solving the current problems, including from the so-called package Berlin plus. Cebotari highlighted that the reestablishment of the free movement, observance of human rights and the care for the health of the residents on the period of the pandemic represented priorities which would be maintained on the agenda.   

The Moldovan official pointed out the efforts taken to maintain a dynamic interaction on the present platforms of negotiations, recent working meetings in the 1+1 format and of some sectoral working groups, focusing on achieving tangible results in all the three baskets on the talks’ agenda. She also set forth the level of coordination of the draft protocol decision on the removing of technical obstacles to the trade and protection of consumers’ rights.   

Olga Cebotari stressed the importance of maintaining and developing good partnership relations between Moldova and the European Union, success projects implemented, efficient involvement of Brussels in the promotion of the measures to strengthen the confidence between the residents from the two banks of Dniester and the active role in backing the process of Transnistrian file’s settlement and in consolidating the achievement of the government’s goal of Moldova’s reintegration.  

The deputy prime minister sincerely thanked for the solid support provided to Moldova’s citizens, including from the country’s eastern districts, in combating, treatment and recovery from the Covid-19 infection, for the consignments of donations provided and for compensating the expenses of temporary accommodation of medical employees from the Transnistrian region on the right bank of Dniester.

For his part, the EU ambassador referred to the continuous support of Moldova’s efforts to identify a lasting solution to the Transnistrian file, with the observance of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, providing support for strengthening the policies of the country’s reintegration, role and impact of assistance projects through confidence building programmes, need to deepen the cooperation with the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM Mission) on aspects of managing the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border.       

The official agreed on maintaining and developing a prodigious cooperation on diverse subjects of mutual interest and would continue carrying out the initiatives able to contribute to the sustainable development and advancement of the settlement process.
