New service meant for assisting victims of trafficking of human beings launched in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - A new service meant for assisting the victims and presumed victims of the trafficking of human beings men was launched in Chisinau today and will be managed by the National Social Assistance Agency.   

According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), in the last years, decision-makers have recorded a constant increase in the number of men victims; the number of men has reached 50 per cent of the overall number of victims of the trafficking in human beings and some of these people need assistance of specialized rehabilitation and support for reintegration in the society.    

The providing of specialized assistance to victims men was included as activity in the national action plan for the implementation of the strategy for the prevention and combating of the trafficking of human beings for 2018-2023, as a result of recommendations formulated in more monitoring reports by the U.S. Department of State in the field of prevention and combatting the trafficking of human beings.    

The service is the first of this kind in Moldova and has 10 placement locations and its employees will be able to provide support and counseling also to the men victims who need placement. The service’s beneficiaries will receive psychological, social, legal and medical counseling.  

“This service represents significant progress in ensuring the fact that the men and boys are not overlooked or non-assisted. The service is one of the first of this kind in the region and can serve as model for other countries. I call on our partners from Moldova to maintain the long-term support for the functionality of the shelter and implement the best practices in the supply of services to victims,’’ U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan said at the launch event.

The service of assistance of victims of the trafficking of human beings men is a public social institution, which in 2021 will be backed by the International Organization for Migration and as of 2022 the Service is to be fully financed from the state budget.
