Moldovan president, Health Ministry's representatives discuss problems faced in fight with pandemic

Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today discussed with the new state secretaries and the heads of departments of the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), in order to learn what problems the ministry is facing in the fight against the pandemic and what the Presidency can help with, the presidential press service has reported.    

„We discussed the plan on response to the infection with COVID-19 and enforcement of the measures recommended in the Supreme Security Council’s decision from 13 March, needed to attenuate the pressure on the health system and to cease the spread of the virus. In particular, we referred to the increase in the number of places in hospitals, working out of a mechanism of supply of compensated medicines at home, enhancing the capacity of testing and ensuring the strict observance of the treatment of easy and moderate cases,’’ Maia Sandu said.      

The head of state also discussed with health sector decision-makers the need to enhance the capacity of vaccination in the next weeks and speed up the process, in order to quicker switch to the second stage of the vaccination plan.

Also, President Maia Sandu asked to speed up the discussions with producers and to ensure the purchasing of the vaccines as quickly as possible. ‘’Our common goal is to cease the spread of the virus and save as many lives as possible. A consolidated effort of the institutions is necessary, in order to manage to stop the pandemic. Namely therefore, I will continue doing my utmost to get vaccine, medical equipment, oxygen generators, medicines and other assistance needed for the health system and the citizens,’’ the head of state stressed.
