British strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus found in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/- The laboratory of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) received the results of the samples sent to the Charited Institute of Virology in Berlin, Germany, which confirmed the presence of the British strain in our country.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, out of the 23 samples sent to Germany, 11 were confirmed as British strain B.1.1.7 (UK). Seven samples were from suspects of COVID-19 returning from the UK, two from Ukraine and two patients with severe forms of COVID-19 in intensive care units.

In this context, ANSP laboratory continues to select biological samples to monitor the circulation of SARS CoV-2 strains.

MSMPS announces that the detection of the new strain does not change the conduct of patient treatment and urges people to comply with all measures approved by the health authorities.

So far, 216,094 cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in the Republic of Moldova.
