World Bank assesses project on improvement of local roads in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - A World Bank’s mission has assessed the stage of implementation of the Improvement of Local Roads project in Moldova, within a cycle of online conferences, held with the participation of the leadership of the State Administration of Roads (ASD), representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) and entrepreneurs.   

The sides considered the phase of carrying out the contracts financed by the Bank, of implementation of the programme on optimized planning of the road works and integration of the contracts based on performance criteria for the periodical maintenance of the national roads.  

The participants in the meeting evaluated the carrying out of activities concerning the monitoring of the rehabilitation process, especially the percentage of the volume of works at the restoration of 12.5 km, part of the Corridor 13.2 which goes through the Parlita village, Alexeevca commune, Ungheni district and Milesti, Nisporeni district and about 10 km, part of the Corridor 8.3, which crosses the settlements Harbovat, Sverida, Calarasi district. To improve the corridor 13.2 and 8.3, the World Bank provided a loan worth over 185 million lei in all.      

„The WB’s mission was informed also about the status of fulfillment of the road works, contracted in 2020 and which started in last March, on the improvement of 36.5 km, part of the Corridor 10, which more goes through villages from the Telenesti and Rezina district, over 34 km of the Corridor 16, which crosses more settlements of the Ialoveni district and of about 11 km of the Corridor 13.1, which crosses two villages of the Ungheni district,’’ ASD said.     

The projects on rehabilitation of the Corridors 10 and 13.1 have a total value of more than 448 million lei and the one on the repair of the Corridor 16 – about 363 million lei, with co-financing from the road fund’s resources.  

The agreement on the implementation of the World Bank’s Improvement of Local Roads project was signed in late April 2016, with a value of 80 million dollars. The money was allocated to Moldova’s government for the modernization of local roads from means of the road fund worth 6.3 million lei.
