British government reconfirms support for reforms' agenda, approach of anticorruption fight of Moldova's president

Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for European Neighbourhood and the Americas of the United Kingdom Wendy Morton, on a two-day official visit to Chisinau. The sides exchanged opinions on the pandemic and political situation in Moldova, discussed the reforms’ agenda, for which Moldova needs also support on behalf of the UK, the presidential press service has reported.
„We thank the British government for the generous support provided to combat the effects of the pandemic – contribution for Moldova’s supply with vaccine within the COVAX platform and providing the medical system with protection equipment and medical equipment for treating Covid patients,’’ the head of state said.
Also, President Maia Sandu and Minister Wendy Morton discussed the evolution of the bilateral relations in the context of post-Brexit, the situation in the region, as well as the process of recovery of the money illegally taken out of Moldova. ‘’We ruled together that the financial resources confiscated from citizen Luca Filat be redirected to the National Social Assistance Agency of Moldova, for financing the social service of personal assistant for the people with severe disabilities. We will continue the approaches of recovery and return of the money illegally taken out of Moldova in the United Kingdom and in other countries,’’ Maia Sandu said.
For her part, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for European Neighbourhood and the Americas of the United Kingdom Wendy Morton reconfirmed the British government’s support for the reforms’ agenda and the approach of anticorruption fight of President Maia Sandu. She encouraged the consolidation and boosting of the political, economic and security relations between the two countries.
