Declaration on Sovereignty displayed in Moldovan Parliament's Museum

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Parliament’s Museum today hosts a copy of Moldova’s Declaration on Sovereignty, along with the Declaration on Independence of Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.
The action fits the activities dedicated to the Sovereignty Day, annually marked on 23 June. In 1990, the Declaration on Sovereignty was adopted at the first session of the Supreme Soviet (parliament) of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (RSSM) on this day.
The document clearly stipulated the supremacy of laws in RSSM and envisaged the sovereign right to have diplomatic relations with other countries. Subsequently, the document stayed at the basis of the working out of the Constitution which has been the Fundamental Law of Moldova so far.
The Declaration reads that ‘’the sovereignty is exercised in the interest of the entire people by the supreme representative body of the Republic’s state power. No part of the people, no group of citizens, no political party or public organization, no other formation, no private person can assume the right of exercising the sovereignty.’’
Today morning, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii conveyed congratulations to all citizens on this occasion and wished them courage and determination to maintain and defend the country’s sovereignty in continuation. To protect the values of the national heritage, observe their inalienable right to life, freedom and prosperity, as well as to be responsible for the millenary history, culture and traditions of the people.
At the same time, the speaker urged the Moldovan citizens to preserve and convey the ancestors’ values and traditions to the next generations.
