Chisinau, 13 July /MOLDPRES/- Health authorities urge people to go for vaccination. The call comes after the number of cases of infection with the new coronavirus increased by 20 percent last week. The leadership of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection claims that the new strain, called Delta, detected for the first time in India, could already be present in the Republic of Moldova.

MSMPS State Secretarty Denis Cernelea said today that the number of diseases is increasing, especially in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester. Most cases of infection are imported. 13 of them were detected in people who have recently returned from the Russian Federation, which is facing a new pandemic wave, generated by the Delta strain. Thus, the risk of a new pandemic wave, generated by Sars-VOC-2, remains high. "We should not wait for the results, the Delta strain may already be in Moldova," Cernelea said.

He added that the results of the tests taken by ANSP specialists and sent to a laboratory in Germany will come tomorrow, but the probability that the new strain will already develop in Moldova is high.

Health experts say the only way to reduce the new wave of COVID-19 infection, which is set to begin in August, is vaccination. For this reason, several vaccination marathons have been planned for this weekend. The first will take place on Saturday, at the Palace of the Republic, where the booster of Sputnik vaccine will be administered. The second will take place on Sunday, at the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy Nicolae Testemitanu. Also, at Soroca Fortress there will be an event organized in partnership with the National Association for Tourism, where a mobile team will be active.

The vaccination rate in the Republic of Moldova reached 14.3 percent, without counting the vaccinated people abroad. AstraZeneca serum is the most widely used, with the stock of such vaccine to be supplemented by at least 50,000 doses by late August.
