Parliament of new legislature to convene in meeting no later than 30 days after elections

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/- In accordance with Article 63 of the Constitution, the newly elected Legislature will convene in a meeting at the convocation of the President of the Republic of Moldova within 30 days from the elections. From the date of the meeting, the Parliament will be considered legally constituted.

According to the Regulations of the Legislative Forum, the parliament meeting is chaired by the oldest member of parliament.

The Constitutional Court head will present a report on the results of the election of the Parliament and the validation of the mandates of the elected deputies. Within ten days after the legal constitution of the Legislature, the parliamentary factions are set up. They operate under their own regulations. The factions shall consist of at least five elected members.

After the legal constitution of the Parliament, speaker and deputy heads are elected, and standing bureau is formed. In order to elect speaker, the Legislature, at the proposal of the parliamentary factions, establishes a commission.

The deputy heads are elected at the proposal of the speaker, after consulting the factions, by open vote, with the vote of the majority of the elected deputies. The standing bureau is its working body and is formed, taking into account the proportional representation of the factions in the Parliament.

On July 11, 2021, snap parliamentary elections took place in the Republic of Moldova. According to the Electoral Code, within 10 days of receiving the documents from the Central Electoral Commission, but not before the final settlement by the courts of appeals filed according to the procedures established by law, the Constitutional Court is to confirm or deny the legality of elections.

The Parliament of the 10th Legislature was elected on February 24, 2019, the constituent meeting was held on March 21, 2019.
