Several people detained in corruption case at Design Institute

Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- Eighteen people, including deputy head and five other officials from the Design Institute (IPOT) were detained today by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) on abuse of office, passive corruption, corruption assets and influence peddling.

"Besides six officials from IPOT, 12 individuals were detained, including beneficiaries of some companies. The detentions occur as a result of over 55 searches carried out this morning at the homes, service offices and cars of the persons concerned, currently they are being heard, in compliance with the procedural guarantees established by law ", the General Prosecutor's Office said.

The case was initiated in early 2021 and according to the evidence, in March- July 2021 IPOT specialists allegedly received from individuals and beneficiaries of companies amounts between 250 - 2000 euros. In exchange for these sums, the officials diminished the creditworthiness of the soil in the study for the lands owned by the beneficiaries of the pedological investigations, thus prejudicing the budget of the local public administrations in particularly large proportions.

The criminal investigation into this case continues.
