Moldovan economics minister has meeting with leadership of National Office for Vine and Wine

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - Economics Minister Sergiu Gaibu today met Director of the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV) Cristina Frolov. The two officials tackled subjects on the situation of the native vine and wine producers in the promotion of the export of wines and cognacs to the international market, as well as identifying new opportunities for the promotion of the Wine of Moldova country brand.  

The sides discussed the delegation of a representative of the ministry to the ONVV Coordination Council, as a result of the amendment of the law on vine and wine, according to which the council was completed with two members, one on behalf of the Economics Ministry and another one on behalf of the Finance Ministry. 

Gaibu noted that the vine-growing and wine-making sector represented a strategic field for the national economy. He said that the Economics Ministry was oriented towards optimizing the processes of state’s interaction with the national producers, as well as identifying markets with real potential for wines’ export. The minister stressed the importance of studies, in order to understand the domestic demand and the potential objective of export according to types of products, as well as the need to strengthen the efforts to promote the country’s wine brand.    
 
For her part, Cristina Frolov reviewed the principal strategic directions of development of the vine and wine production. She highlighted the list of countries with increased interest as export destination for the vine and wine sector, consolidating the institutional capacities and protecting the local producers; the need to remove the practices of unfair competition and ensuring a transparent and correct competition climate; importance of the sector’s sustainable development, as well as the necessity to change the cultivation practices, in order to ensure its sustainability in conditions of drought.   

The official agreed that pragmatic actions were needed for amending the normative framework related to the vine and wine sector, which would stimulate the competitiveness among producers and stimulate the procedures of export, taxation and certification. Minister Gaibu displayed full openness for improving the legislation in the sector and ensuring a climate of transparent economic operation and in the spirit of the free market economy.
