Parliament hosted several groups of visitors on International Democracy Day

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/- Groups of visitors from different parts of the country, as well as from Estonia, Ukraine and Italy took part in International Democracy Day, held today in Parliament's square, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Speaker Igor Grosu said that democracy is not given, it is built every day. "Democracy is when the government works for the people, for the public good. We have received the vote and the trust of the people to fight poverty, corruption and build a strong state for the people. In the presidential and parliamentary elections, people have shown that they want to live in a democratic state, where the law is at the head of the table ", he said.

MPs of the Action and Solidarity Party Radu Marian and Dumitru Alaiba talked to students of A.Mateevici college about experience of MP, democracy and involvement in decision-making.

During the day, participants were briefed on how to properly formulate and submit a petition, how to register a request for an information visit to Parliament, and took guided tours of the Legislative building.

A special space was arranged for the little visitors, where they drew, made a puzzle and had fun.

The United Nations General Assembly has decided to mark the International Day of Democracy on 15 September 2008. It aims to celebrate democracy and to remind the importance of promoting and protecting this universal value.
