Switzerland to further support Moldova for local environmental projects

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu had a meeting yesterday with head of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova Caroline Tissot. The main issues were related to deepening of bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, waste management and water protection.

The minister thanked the Swiss Cooperation Office for constant support to Moldova and referred, in this context, to joint projects in the water supply and sanitation sector, but also to support in improving public policies to address key environmental issues.

"We greatly appreciate and express our gratitude for the considerable support and efforts directed towards solving the problems related to the protection of the environment, through projects in the water supply and sanitation sector and integrated water management. We are for the continuation of the good cooperation in the elaboration of the public policy documents and the dissemination of the good practices, I hope you will have the availability to continue ”, Iuliana Cantaragiu said.

Caroline Tissot appreciated the reorganization of the central public administration and the separation of the Ministry of Environment, the environmental objectives set by the Government, expressing its readiness to continue bilateral collaboration, priority in environmental fields related to public health, local government, economic development and employment.

"Ensuring the connection of the implementation of projects at local level with national priorities and actions in the field would be beneficial for strengthening the capacities of local public administration bodies and in achieving national environmental objectives. Projects to promote economic development, social entrepreneurship and organic farming are closely linked to the promotion of environmental values ​​", the head of the Swiss Cooperation Office said.

Finally, the sides announced their bilateral interest in continuing cooperation in the areas of management of the ministry, in order to solve environmental problems in the country, strengthen cooperation in the fields of waste management, education and public awareness, youth involvement, and identification of new joint project initiatives in accordance with the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the Republic of Moldova.
