Investments programme launched for higher education institutions of Moldova

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - More universities and colleges from Moldova will receive financing within the Moldova Higher Education Project, implemented by the Education and Research Ministry, with the World Bank’s support. The contest files can be submitted till 31 December 2021.   

The beneficiary institutions will be selected on contest basis. ‘’Eligible will be the public higher education institutions and pedagogical colleges which train specialists in the following sectors: education sciences; engineering and engineer activities, information and communication technologies and Health. The overall values of the programme is 24.7 million euros and the money could be used for the modernization and endowment of education rooms, laboratories and research centres,’’ the competent ministry said.    

According to Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala, the investments in the infrastructure of universities and colleges will substantially improve the quality of the environment for teaching-studying at education institutions. Also, this project is set to help higher education institutions to improve the syllabi, so that they meet the requirements of the labour market,’’ the official noted.      

Thus, each of the eligible higher education institutions will be able to benefit from a maximal sum of 2.15 million euros and each eligible pedagogical college – from a maximal sum of 900,000 euros. As a result of the contest, nine higher education institutions and six pedagogical colleges, which educate specialists in the fields eligible for this project, will benefit from financing.  

The Moldova Higher Education Project was launched in 2020 and sees systemic interventions to improve the quality, financing and management of the higher education. The project will end in 2025, with the loan provided by the World Bank amounting to 35.7 million euros.
