Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/ -”Moldova’s success in the fields of social protection, health, economy, investments’ attraction depends on the success of the reform in the justice sector. These are the citizens’ expectations and our priorities.’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu made statements to this effect at a today’s meeting with Inese Lībiņa-Egnere and Pierre-Alain Fridez, the co-rapporteurs for the fulfillment of the obligations and commitments by Moldova of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), on a visit to Chisinau, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

”The justice is the ‘’nervous system’’ of the country and we must heal it. We will not accept the perpetuation of the old models – interference with the justice system, oligarchic interests, embezzlements of public money, inactions of regulatory institutions,’’ the parliament speaker stressed.

In the context, Igor Grosu informed the officials about the projects initiated to combat the corruption, reform the justice system, optimize the public institutions.

Also, the parliament speaker informed about the approval, in the first reading, of the draft on ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. ‘’This is an indispensable instrument of the system of protection of human rights. We will put it to vote for ratification, in the final reading, at the immediately next parliament meeting,’’ the parliament speaker emphasized.

At the same time, Igor Grosu informed the members of the PACE delegation about the fulfillment of the commitments as to the citizens’ social protection: increase in pension and other social benefits for about 400,000 beneficiaries. ‘’We will establish new packages of measures in the 2022 state budget for backing the population and economic agents, especially in the context of the pandemic situation,’’ Igor Grosu added.
