Moldovan PM says cabinet successfully finishes negotiations with IMF for new economic programme

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s government has successfully finished the negotiations at the level of experts with the Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).This means a new programme on financing for Moldova, which will be a catalyst of new financings on behalf of other investors. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today made statements to this effect at a news briefing held along with IMF Resident Representative in Moldova cu Rodgers Chawani.    

The IMF’s new financing package sees a sum of about 564 million dollars, which is to be allocated during three years and four months.

„This financing programme is based on our government’s action programme, the priorities of which are value of the rule of law state and combating corruption. With the Fund’s support, we will carry out which we have set to do – better infrastructure, qualitative roads, water supply, agriculture’ modernization, energy efficiency, etc. We will also back the fields hit by the pandemic crisis and which still need help to overcome it. It is about the sectors of social assistance, economic, budgetary and fiscal, etc.’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.     

The prime minister noted that the completion of the negotiations with IMF ‘’is a very good news, which comes in a difficult moment for Moldova,’’ referring to the energy crisis faced by the country.  

For his part, Rodgers Chawani said that the negotiation of new economic programme with IMF was a success of the Moldovan government. ‘’I express appreciation for the prime minister and the entire cabinet, which have managed, in a difficult context, to get a large string of policies,’’ the resident representative of the International Monetary Fund also said.

The IMF team started the discussions with the Moldovan authorities on a new programme of financial support on 27 September. The final agreement to this effect is to be signed in next December.
