Deputy head of Moldovan Post Office detained by CNA

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/- Deputy head of the Moldovan Post Office was detained this morning by CNA officers and anti-corruption prosecutors in a case in which he is suspected of abuse of office.

According to CNA data, in May- June 2021, decision makers from the enterprise, having a prior agreement with two companies would have concluded several fictitious contracts for the provision of IT services, even if the company benefited from the same services, according to a contract concluded with another company in the field. In order to avoid the public auction, they would have completed the contracts as low value acquisitions, their total amount being 229,000 lei. Thus, the officials would have managed the public material and financial resources contrary to their destination, harming the state budget to a large extent.

Law enforcement officers conducted several searches at the office and the home of the current deputy director and at the home of former director of the enterprise. The offices of the two fictitiously contracted economic agents were also searched.

If found guilty of abuse of power or office, the official risks a sentence of up to 7 years in prison or a fine of up to 117,500 lei, in both cases with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for a term of at 5 to 10 years.
