Moldovans older than 18 can administer booster dose of anti-COVID-19 vaccine

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Health Ministry today informed that it had issued an order to all medical and sanitary institutions and vaccination centres, under which also the people aged between 18 and 59 years, who ended the full scheme of vaccination against COVID-19, can benefit from the booster dose. The order has already entered into force.      

Given the epidemiological situation in the region, triggered by the new Omicron variant and to anticipate a new wave of infections with the Sars-Cov-2 virus, the Health Ministry (MS) urges all citizens to finish the full scheme of vaccination.    

At the same time, the administering of the booster dose of vaccine continues in Moldova, which is applied at a time interval of at least six months in the case of the vaccines with the primary scheme of two doses and at least two months for the Janssen/Johnson&Johnson vaccine.  

According to the latest data by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the efficiency of the vaccines against the severe forms triggered by the Delta variant of the Sars-Cov-2 virus remains high. At the same time, the first data appeared, which establish the efficiency of the vaccines of about 70 per cent against the Omicron variant.

As many as 35,718 booster doses of vaccine have been administered in Moldova so far.
