New COVID-19 testing laboratory opened for residents from 4 north Moldova districts

Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/ - The residents of the northern districts of Edinet, Briceni, Ocnita and Donduseni as of 24 January 2022 will have access to an advanced laboratory for making PCR tests for detecting the COVID-19 virus. A new Covid-19 testing centre today was opened at the laboratory of the Public Health Centre from Edinet. The project was carried out, in order to extend the capacities of diagnosis at the level of the district, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.        

Attending the event, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita stressed the importance of enhancing the capacity of testing, in order to keep the virus under control and limit the spread of the pandemic: “Am happy that such investments are made. It is important that we open as many laboratories as possible, so that all people have access to qualitative services.”    

The laboratory which provides services for 16 medical and sanitary institutions from Edinet and the adjacent districts was endowed with computer technology, fridges, consumables and reagents for implementing the PCR way. Thus, the equipment worth 95,000 dollars in all will ensure the process of carrying out the investigations, as well as the management of the waste resulting from the laboratory work.    

Also, to ensure the conditions needed for the laboratory’s activity, with the support of the National Public Health Agency, competent people carried out works of repair of the room, aqueduct and sewerage system worth about 2 million lei.  .
