Chisinau, January 19 / MOLDPRES /- In a briefing held today, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu announced the government's intention to initiate the necessary procedures to establish a state of emergency on gas market. The decision comes as a result of receiving the official letter sent by Gazprom to MoldovaGaz, informing the company that gas supplies to Moldova can be stopped from January 20, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

"This is because MoldovaGaz, which has a majority shareholder in the same Gazprom, has failed to find solutions to pay for consumption in full and on time. Unfortunately, Gazprom, instead of coming up with measures to ensure that the joint stock company it controls can fulfill its contractual obligations towards consumers and suppliers, threatens to leave consumers without gas. In these conditions, the Government considers that there is a real risk for the energy security of the country and for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, that is why it is forced to intervene ", said Gavrilița.

Today, at 13:00, Gavrilița will convene the Commission for Emergencies. At 15:00, a cabinet meeting will be held. In the proposed scenario, the state of emergency will be requested in the Parliament tomorrow, later, the Commission for Emergencies will be convened again, in which decisions will be taken to allow the uninterrupted supply of gas to the country.
