Chisinau, January 20 / MOLDPRES /- The National Medical Insurance Company announced today that it has allocated in 2021 a double amount for expensive consumables compared to previous years, which exceeded the figure of 44 million lei. The money was allocated from compulsory health insurance funds.

According to the CNAM, expensive consumables were mostly medical devices used in complex surgeries to restore the functions of various organs and limbs: heart, kidneys, ear, eyes, shoulder, spine, hand, foot.

The most expensive consumable, covered last year for the first time by the compulsory medical insurance, was the transcateter aortic valve prosthesis, implanted in the heart, which cost an average of 425 thousand lei. Thus, 20 insured persons received a new chance at life, benefiting from heart prostheses in a total value of almost 8 million 500 thousand lei.

Another expensive consumable is the cochlear implant, a device that allows the processing of sound and speech for people with severe hearing loss and which, since last year, is covered by compulsory health insurance for adults. The cost of such a device exceeds 347 thousand lei, and in 2021 from the funds of compulsory health care insurance were funded 19 such implants in children and adults.

At the same time, over 3 million 415 thousand lei were allocated for 34 implantable cardiac defibrillators, which continuously monitor the heart rate and generate different types of electrical treatments when there are irregular heartbeats.
