Chisinau city hall to open several COVID-19 test points

Chisinau, January 24 / MOLDPRES /- The General Directorate of Health and Social Assistance of the Chisinau city hall, in collaboration with the General Inspectorate for Emergencies will open COVID-19 test points in front of the municipal polyclinics.

"The opening of these COVID-19 test points is necessary to prevent coronavirus transmission. We are in full swing, the Omicron strain is very contagious. Avoiding crowds, which are created in polyclinics, is a measure to prevent infections ", mayor Ion Ceban said today. According to the mayor, the municipality will provide quick tests procured by the local public administration for municipal educational institutions.

At the same time, the official announced that in the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases for Children and the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Children V. Ignatenco all COVID-19 treatment beds are full. "I asked the central health authorities to open treatment centers at the IMSP Mother and Child Institute in order to reduce the pressure on the municipal hospital institutions," Ceban said.

According to the mayor, the Omicron strain is very contagious, mainly affecting children.

8,897 tests were performed in the Republic of Moldova yesterday, being confirmed 2,394 cases of infection with the new coronavirus.
