Chinese New Year marked at Ion Creanga National Library for Children from Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Ion Creanga National Library for Children, in partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Chisinau, today organized an online celebration of the Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival.   

Attending the event were Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to Moldova Yan Wenbin, the director of the Confucius Institute from the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM), Wang Yifeng, the head of the Olympic and Sports Committee of Moldova, Nicolae Juravschi, manager at the Chinese Centre from Chisinau, Radu Plamadeala, the author of a book titled, China mea din viață și din cărți (My China from Life and from Book), Tatiana Ciocoi, university professor, PhD from ULIM, Elena Prus, etc.   

In his greeting message, Ambassador Yan Wenbin said the celebration of the Chinese New Year or the Spring Festival had become a tradition at the Ion Creanga National Library for Children. ’’This today’s event is of special significance. The Spring Festival lasts several days and today is the fifth day. At the same time, today is a special day – the inauguration of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, an event of international importance. On this nice occasion, I wish everybody good health and success and to the Moldovan sportspeople – to have a performance of world level at the Beijing Olympic Games. The Ion Creanga Library is a very good partner of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Moldova. I express gratitude for the contribution of its employees, as well as of children to the promotion of the Chinese language. Our children represent the future of the Moldovan-Chinese friendship. I wish all children to be strong and nice, just as the tiger cub,’’ the Chinese diplomat said.     

For her part, the director of the aforementioned library, Eugenia Bejan, said that the library was benefiting from donations of books on behalf of the Embassy of China. ‘’We have a very rich collection of belles-letters and textbooks in Chinese language and we are grateful to the Chinese diplomats for this,’’ Eugenia Bejan said. In continuation, children from various school and pre-school education institutions presented diverse artistic actions in the Chinese language, an exhibition of drawings dedicated to the Chinese New Year and other surprises.     

The Chinese New Year 2022 or the Water Tiger Year comes after the White Metal Ox Year and is the most important traditional holiday of the Chinese people. The festival usually starts on the first day from the first month of the Chinese calendar and ends with the Lantern Festival, which takes place on the 15th day. The eve of the Chinese New Year is called Chun Jie. The origin of the holiday is century old and is surrounded by more legends and customs. In old times, this period was one in which people were thinking about how they had behaved and in what they believed in the last year. The Water Tiger Year is said to be the year of massive changes, of introduction of new and bold ideas, especially quite controversial ones.
