Chisinau, Feb. 22 / MOLDPRES /- A new laboratory for the production of high quality planting material is operating in the Republic of Moldova. It was set up in collaboration with experts from Italy, who coordinate the laboratory's work and contribute to the training of specialists in the field, in cooperation with the State University of Moldova.

"Initially, the main purpose of creating the laboratory was to produce hazelnut seedlings, but now it also has the capacity to obtain rootstocks for fruit crops, fruit bushes, as well as for aromatic / medicinal and decorative plants," said the Ministry. Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA).

According to MAIA, the branch of planting material and facilitating the access of agricultural producers to local material of high quality and biological categories is a priority, and the experience will later serve as a benchmark for developing and promoting policies in this segment.

The authorities also established the need to develop and approve, together with the laboratory staff, the system for the production of fruit seedlings, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Seeds, which will later serve as a basic document for monitoring and compliant production of seedlings.

The modern laboratory for the production of viral propagating material, Vitrohub Moldova, was created in our country by Euroalun, a member of the Employers' Association "Alliance of the Value Chain in Organic Agriculture of Moldova" (MOVCA), in collaboration with the State University of Moldova.

The planting material produced at Vitrohub Moldova can also be used in organic farming, including for the extension of orchards or on certified land.
