Chisinau, March 1 / MOLDPRES /- On the first day of spring, Moldova marks the feast of Martisor - the white-and-red symbol of change and rebirth. With the arrival of spring, we want to know that life can defeat weapons, bringing destruction and death. The statements were made by the head of state, Maia Sandu, on her official website.

"The world is waking up, celebrating the end of winter and the renewal of nature. People celebrate life. This year, Martisor comes with a message of peace. The war in Ukraine shook us. With the arrival of spring, we want to know that life can defeat weapons, bringing destruction and death. In uncertain times, let us stand by one another, stand in solidarity, and pray for a clear sky. Peace is a priority, "said Maia Sandu.

Speaker Igor Grosu also came up with a message.

"We are greeting a sad Martisor this year. Ukraine is in an unjust and inhuman war. Innocent people, civilians and children are dying. All of Moldova is now living in pain and worry. Our relatives, our Ukrainian friends are going through terrible times. Many are forced to hide in shelters, and women and children flee the war. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens are coming to Moldova these days because they want to know their children are safe. We welcome them with open arms. Moldovans have united for Ukraine, "Grosu wrote.

"Moldovans offer their homes and meals to Ukrainians they have never seen before. That means peace - love and care for people. I want the symbol of our Martyrdom - the protection from evil, the joy of nature that comes to life - to come true these days. Let a spring of peace come to Ukraine. And may there be peace in the whole world ", concluded Grosu.
