Moldovan foreign affairs minister has phone conversation with Japanese counterpart

Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a phone conversation with Foreign Affairs Minister of Japan Hayashi Yoshimasa, in the context of the marking of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Moldovan-Japanese diplomatic relations on 16 March. The diplomats reviewed the stage of the bilateral relations and exchanged opinions on the security situation in the region, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.      

The officials confirmed the interest in the deepening of the political, commercial and economic, educational and cultural dialogue. They stressed the privileged character of the Moldovan-Japanese cooperation in the last three decades.   

„I expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for the assistance provided to Moldova during years in diverse fields; the most recent one was meant for combating the COVID-19 pandemic, purchasing modern equipment for extinguishing fires and creation of the national digitization centre at the National Library,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.     

The Moldovan official also expressed appreciation for the announcement on the providing of assistance worth about 3.5 million dollars to Moldova for managing the crisis of refugees from Ukraine and the detaching, in the near future, of a mission of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, in order to understand the humanitarian needs of the refugees.      

At the same time, Minister Nicu Popescu informed his counterpart about the impact of the war on Moldova, including on the economic sector, the one of exports, as well as on the energy one.      

„We exchanged opinions on the importance of the international cooperation for overcoming this large-scale humanitarian crisis, highlighting the firm support of our countries for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head added.
