Chisinau, March 19 / MOLDPRES /- The Ministry of Health reports that 96480 doses of Spikevax, a manufacturer of Moderna, were received on March 15, due to the expiration of doses received by France as a donation from France in mid-December 2021.
The batch was received with a very short shelf life - only three months before the expiry date.
According to the Ministry of Health, a number of specific issues related to the characteristics of the Spikevax vaccine involve certain losses, namely the vaccine is in multidose vials and contains 10 doses for primary vaccination or 20 doses for booster. This affects its assimilation without loss from the beginning. At the same time, the given vaccine is administered no later than 19 hours after opening the bottle, which limits its time of use.
At the same time, the expected vaccine uptake period - January / February - coincided with the winter wave of COVID-19 infections that slowed the pace of vaccination. The ministry notes that vaccine losses are accepted in all immunization programs, especially in vaccination campaigns. Vaccine losses have been reported in all countries, which are considered unavoidable losses.
The expired doses are withdrawn from the vaccination offices and subsequently destroyed, in accordance with established procedures.
The Ministry of Health claims that in the Republic of Moldova there are enough doses of vaccine to continue the immunization campaign.
To date, 1,050,931 people have been vaccinated with the full scheme.
