Parliamentary working group on Gagauzia launched work in new composition

Chisinau, March 22 / MOLDPRES /- The launching meeting of the Working Group for ensuring, within the constitutional norms, the functionality of Gagauzia and the legislative provisions of the Republic of Moldova in relation to the special status of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, in its new composition, took place today in Parliament, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Speaker Igor Grosu welcomed the resumption of the activity of the Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia, after the establishment of the governing bodies of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia.

At the same time, the head of the Legislature mentioned that this is happening in a difficult period for our country, marked by several crises.

"We have to deal with these major challenges, only through dialogue. That is why our call to the members of the Group is to communicate intensely, to act quickly and, with the help of development partners, to identify the best solutions expected by the citizens ", said Grosu.

The Governor of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah, confirmed that the common priority task is to strengthen the unity of society and the growth of the democratic culture and urged the members of the Group to develop a common agenda.

"You have an important advantage - the generous support of the development partners of the Republic of Moldova. Based on the best practices of parliamentarism, you can achieve significant results in the process of harmonizing national and regional legislation. Every compromise reached on this platform will serve to strengthen the democratic culture and the unity of our society ", mentioned Irina Vlah.

The two co-chairs of the Working Group - Vladimir Bolea, Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, and Serghei Cimpoies, Member of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, reiterated their readiness and interest in a constructive dialogue within the working group, restoring the full functionality of this important tool. in the dialogue between Chisinau and Comrat.

"It is important to be aware of the essence of the processes, to hear each other and, most importantly, not to forget for a second that we are elected by the people and we must work in the interest of the people," said Vladimir Bolea.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps and development partners of the Republic of Moldova. The launch of the work of the new Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia was welcomed and the determination was expressed to facilitate its proper functioning.

The working group for ensuring, within the constitutional norms, the functionality of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit and the legislative provisions of the Republic of Moldova in relation to the special status of Gagauzia, was created on November 20, 2015. The purpose of the Group is to improve the functioning of Gagauzia in the constitutional framework of the Republic of Moldova, based on the Law on the Special Status of Gagauzia of 1994.
