Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Parliament today voted a Resolution, thereby asking the European Council and the European Commission to give Moldova the status of state candidate for the European Union. Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihai Popsoi made statements to this effect on his page.
According to Popsoi, under the Resolution, the European MPs voted for Moldova’s integration into the European Single Market, increase in the financial support for the Moldovan citizens, as well as the creation of a standing group of support for Moldova, set up at the level of the European Commission. Through the creation of this group, in Moldova, the EU will enhance its staff, which will provide more technical and administrative support to the Moldovan authorities.
“We thank the Resolution’s authors from all parliamentary groups, who proved wide support for Moldova’s European integration agenda. We thank particularly the colleague of the European People’s Party (EPP), Siegfried Muresan, for the promotion of the Resolution,’’ Popsoi.
Moldova signed the application on accession to the European Union on 3 March 2022.
