Moldovan president visits war veteran from central district on eve of 9 May day

Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today visited a war veteran from the Slobozia-Dusca village, central Criuleni district, Ioil Lupasco, who is to turn 100 years next week, the presidential press service has reported.

Ioil Lupasco went to front at the age of 20 and fought along with his fellow soldiers till the end of the war. In 1946, he returned to his native village with two medals on chest. The war veteran worked at the farm from his village during all his life, brought up four children and remained equally curious and modest as in his youth. Till the age of 90, he rode bicycle and today he plants flowers in his yard.

The head of state thanked the veteran for his courage during the war, asked him about the health condition and wished him power to live, to make his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren happy. ‘’On the eve of 9 May Day, we must remember the high price paid by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers for us to live in peace at present. For their sake, honouring the sacrifice of these people and the tragedy of millions of lives lost during the World War II, we must keep peace today,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
