Chisinau, May 20 / MOLDPRES /- President Maia Sandu met on Thursday evening in Paris with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. The discussion focused on the security situation in the region in the context of the war in Ukraine, the bilateral dialogue and the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state thanked the Elysée head for France's support in managing the flow of Ukrainian refugees. Maia Sandu also appreciated the creation in April of the Support Platform for Moldova, which will help our country to overcome the consequences of the war in Ukraine, of the inflation and of the energy crisis, and to continue the initiated reforms. The two heads of state spoke about the Moldovan-French bilateral projects, launched in the last year in several fields.

"We appreciate the cooperation in identifying and confiscating stolen assets from Moldova. We welcome the opening of the office of the French Development Agency in Chisinau, which will take place soon. The agency will support important projects in energy and irrigation, afforestation or water supply and sewerage ", said Maia Sandu.

Another project is the modernization of the railway on the Chisinau-Ungheni section, which will allow the connection to the European railway network. On this occasion, Maia Sandu said that the Republic of Moldova wants to strengthen the dynamic dialogue with France for the benefit of our citizens in the second term of President Macron.

"We also discussed our determination to follow our European path, in the context of the application for EU membership that we signed in early March. We count on the support of Paris for the Republic of Moldova to receive the status of a candidate country. This gesture will signal to our society and the authorities that the efforts to modernize Moldova according to the European model will be supported", Maia Sandu said at the meeting with the French President.
