Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ - Last generation equipment will provide the transfer of movies from the Moldova Film archive in digital format. Thus, over 1,600 films have chance to return to movie theatres and on TV.
An ultrasound film washing machine was bought with the EU’s support. In 2021, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau endowed with equipment a laboratory of digitization for the restoration and preservation of documentaries and full-length films from archive, representing a part of Moldova’s historical, cultural and artistic heritage. At the same time, technicians were trained to ensure the faultless transfer of archive films in digital format. ‘’During about 70 years, Moldova Film produced outstanding cinematographic works, which represent a rich narrative tradition of Moldova and give us an idea about how the Moldovans lived, worked and dreamed years ago,’’ Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon said.
The initiative on the digitization of the movies from the Moldova Film archive was selected for financing following a contest launched by the EU’s Confidence Building Measures programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with consultative voting on behalf of audience. ‘’The promotion of culture as instrument for the peaceful inter-community relations is a key element of the EU’s Confidence Building Measures programme, implemented in partnership with UNDP, for the consolidation of the relations between people and the cooperation between the two banks of Dniester. We are happy that we, the European Union, can contribute to the turning to good account of the golden archives of Moldova’s cinematography, for the benefit of its citizens!,’’ Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said.
