Poland to support five cities in northern Moldova in urban revitalization programs

Chisinau, Aug. 3 /MOLDPRES/- The cities of Otaci, Dondușeni and Râșcani will benefit from support from Poland in the development of urban revitalization programs (PRU), and the cities of Ocnița and Sângerei will have the support of experts in order to update the existing PRU. The representatives of these localities met yesterday to finalize the action plan for the next period.

The development and updating of the PRU for the five cities in the north of the country will be carried out within the project "Sustainable urban development in the North Development Region", implemented by the Regional Development Agency (ADR) North and financed by Polish Aid through the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova .

According to ADR Nord, in the following days, in the five cities, the coordination committees of the PRU drafting process will be created, which will benefit from methodological support. Next week, ADR Nord will also organize the first working visits in the targeted cities.

"One of the specific objectives of the new project is to support the five cities in the process of urban revitalization. Thanks to the new PRU developed or updated, the cities will be eligible for the financing of urban revitalization projects from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, from the Synergy Fund, as well as from other available funding sources", said the director of ADR Nord, Maria Prisacari.

The process of facilitating the development of urban centers in the Northern Development Region started in 2017, with the launch of the project "Supporting the public administration of the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of regional policy through integrated and sustainable urban development", financed under the Polish Foreign Assistance Program of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Following the implementation of the project, eight cities in the north of the country have drawn up and developed PRU in which urban revitalization solutions are proposed according to existing needs. In the Northern Development Region, about 37% of the population lives in the urban environment, being concentrated in 20 urban centers, three of which are municipalities.
