Chisinau, August 12 /MOLDPRES/- Management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) convened yesterday a working meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the National Agency for Food Safety, the Customs Service, with exponents of the profile associations of agricultural producers and exporters to discuss the prohibition by the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service of the Russian Federation (Rosselhoznadzor) of the temporary import of plant products from our country.

According to the authorities of the Russian Federation, the phytosanitary status of domestic plant products does not correspond to the regulations, five quarantine pests being detected in the imported lots. A notification in this regard was received, during yesterday morning, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, where it is communicated that, starting from August 15, the import of vegetable products from several regions of the Republic of Moldova will be prohibited, with except for the districts on the left side of the Dniester.

"The ban on the import of fruit from our country could have a major impact on some domestic producers, especially on the threshold of the harvest campaign. In order to prevent certain risks, we must discuss with the local phytosanitary control bodies, mobilize efforts to elucidate and resolve the situation, including through cooperation with the Russian side", said Vasile Şarban, MAIA state secretary.

ANSA's leadership said that the institution's specialists are open to dialogue with the phytosanitary control structures in the Russian Federation, in order to improve clarity and achieve an extensive exchange of information.

In order to ensure an effective cooperation framework on this subject and to identify solutions, a round of discussions will be organized next week with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau.
