Moldova's former president received another 30 days of house arrest

Chisinau, August 18 /MOLDPRES/- Former President Igor Dodon received another 30 days of house arrest. The decision was taken today by magistrates of the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters.

The decision was taken at the request of the case prosecutors and can be appealed at the Chisinau Court of Appeal for three days. At the same time, the restriction to communicate with other figures in the file, other than his mother and the people who live with Dodon, was maintained.

The prosecutor of the case, Petru Iarmaliuc, emphasized that the prosecution presented new evidence and the risks that indicate the need to remain under house arrest. "It's about: the risk of destruction of evidence, involvement in the criminal investigation and influencing witnesses," said Iarmaliuc.

At the same time, Igor Dodon's lawyer mentioned that "the decision will be challenged at the Chisinau Court of Appeal", as the arrest was "unreasonably prolonged".

The ex-president of the Republic of Moldova was detained this May, being suspected of committing the following crimes: passive corruption, accepting the financing of the political party by a criminal organization, treason and illicit enrichment. Igor Dodon was head of state in 2016-2020.
