Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - The ceremony of delivery of six mobile offices, donated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the Customs Service, was held at the Leuseni customs checkpoint today.
The mobile offices are similar to the standard intermodal containers with the dimension of 6 x 2.4 metres, which allow their transportation by usual cargo trucks. They are isolated phonically and thermally, have an advanced inside illumination and system of electrification which allow a simple connection to network. The inside is arranged with working posts in format of desk, fully endowed with furniture and equipment needed, including computers, printers, safes and the minimally needed comfort – air conditioning equipment and fridges. The finishings allow the use of offices both in summer and winter conditions.
Through this donation, USAID quickly responded to the request by Moldova’s Customs Service and in a record period of time provided, through its new Programme titled, Institutional and Structural Reforms, the needed working mobile spaces for carrying out controls with a single stop at Moldova’s border with Romania.
„When representatives of Moldova’s government, in partnership with their counterparts from Romania, ruled to set up joint customs checkpoints, in order to speed up the procedures related to the crossing of border, remove blockages and shorten the waiting time for carriers, we fully backed this decision,’’ U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon said at the event.
For his part, the director of the Customs Service, Igor Talmazan, said that ‘’the establishment of the coordinated control according to the principle of a single stop at the border crossing point Leuseni-Albita in the direction of entrance into Romania will ease the cross-border traffic and to implement this a project, the employees are needed to be provided with the necessary working conditions, assets and services.’’ ‘’Or already benefitting from these fully endowed mobile offices, we can say that, to a great extent, from the technical and logistic viewpoint, we are prepared for the pilot project with the Romanian side and this is due to the American partners, who quickly reacted to our request and in a quite short period provided us with this mobile infrastructure,’’ Talmazan noted.
