National Commissions for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of Moldova, Romania convened in meeting

Chisinau, 14 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- A joint meeting of the National Commissions for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of Moldova and Romania, organized within the Agenda of the European Heritage Days - 2022, is held today in Chisinau.

The event is organized by the Ministries of Culture from the Republic of Moldova and Romania. Attending the event, Ministers of Culture of the two countries Lucian Romașcanu and Sergiu Prodan welcomed the forum.

In this context, Minister Prodan said he is glad that after a break of several years, today this meeting is taking place between the best experts in the field of intangible cultural heritage from both states. "It is the first time that the joint meeting takes place in Chisinau and the members of the Commissions, as well as specialists from both Ministries of Culture participate. It is the proof of the unprecedented and soulful political will to unite our efforts to preserve and value the testimonies of the past, which is a common one and defines us as a nation in which the same heart beats, despite the Prut, which separates us," Prodan said.


Romanian minister Lucian Romașcanu wanted to thank the members of the national groups who worked for years on the elaboration of the files, who researched and documented every element, who worked together with the local communities in such a way as to ensure the viability of the intangible cultural heritage in the localities of the country, appreciating that out of the seven elements of the Romanian heritage on the UNESCO List, three are shared with the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting will focus on the progress made by both states in the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, aspects of the legal framework in the field, national strategies in the field, common actions to promote the elements included in the List will be established and other elements of national heritage will be identified, which could be jointly submitted to the Representative List of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event is part of the European Heritage Days Program - 2022.
