French Development Agency to contribute to Moldova's transformation through carrying out projects in priority sectors

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/ - The openness of the French Development Agency (AFD) to promptly respond to Moldova’s needs today was reiterated at a meeting between Government’s Secretary General Dumitru Udrea and AFD Regional Director for Eurasia Cécile Couprie.   

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, Dumitru Udrea appreciated AFD’s support for Moldova’s sustainable development, through the implementation of projects in such sectors as irrigation and re-afforestation, modernization of the railway sector and the water supply systems, creation of the electric interconnection. In these fields, AFD provides Moldova with a wide range of instruments, such as technical assistance, grants, budgetary support and loans for public policies, in order to support reform programmes.   

„Thank you for AFD’s contribution to Moldova’s social and economic development through the carrying out of such a vast portfolio in our country. We have a positive dynamic in the implementation of more projects, boosted including due to the opening of the AFD office in Moldova and we rely, in continuation, on a productive cooperation, both to carry out projects underway and to identify new areas of collaboration ,’’ Dumitru Udrea said.  

For her part, Cécile Couprie said that the good implementation of the projects underway was due including to an efficient cooperation on each segment separately. ‘’We have a very good cooperation with the teams from Chisinau and we are impressed by how involved you are in the management of the sectors you are in charge of. At the same time, we work together with other donors, in order to help you carry out the sectoral reforms. We are oriented to the accelerated implementation of the initiatives which will significantly help Moldova,’’ the AFD official said.  

The Government’s Secretary General also welcomed the signing by AFD and the Finance Ministry of a credit facility agreement worth 60 million euros. The document signed today will help Moldova promote renewable energy, enhance the sustainability of the railway sector and attenuate the impact of the energy crisis on the disadvantaged families.
