Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - The runoff of the new local elections is held in the Braniste commune, northern Rascani district, today. The settlement’s mayor is to be elected at the ballot.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, electoral contenders on behalf of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) and Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) run for the mayor mandate.
A number of 1,003 electors are expected to vote. The polling stations are opened in the time interval 7:00-21:00.
The runoff voting is carried out based on the same electoral lists which were used in the first round of voting.
In the Braniste commune, the mayor mandate was ceased before term because of the impossibility to exercise the powers on a period longer than four months in a row.
The first round of the ballot took place on 16 October. Following the voting, no candidate got more than a half of the validly expressed votes. Thus, in a term of two weeks, the runoff election is organized with the first two candidates who picked up the largest number of votes.
