Moldovan president meets European Parliament President

Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. The official is on a visit to Chisinau in a period when the European Union’s support matters a lot for Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.   

„The European Parliament has always been on the side of Moldova’s citizens in their approach for democracy and rule of law state, against corruption,’’ Maia Sandu said in her speech. According to the head of state, the European MPs were with the Moldovans when corrupt groups seized the state, putting the latter in the service of oligarchic interests and the constant backing of the European legislative body was vital for  maintaining Moldova on the democratic way. ‘’It was the first European institution which said clearly and loudly that it supports us in the approach of getting the status of country candidate for European Union,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.        

The head of state thanked for the every support provided by the European Parliament during years. She noted that Moldova counted on an equally strong and solidary support in the long run as well.  ‘’We need support, in order to overcome the dramatic consequences of the war waged by Russia against the neighbor and friendly country, Ukraine, as well as to start the negotiations on accession as soon as possible,’’ Maia Sandu said at the meeting with Roberta Metsola.
